Amani Creatives presents Coco Mbassi

Coco Mbassi is a singer originating from Cameroon. She describes her music as ‘a tree with deep African roots and branches that extend some towards classical music, some towards soul, gospel and jazz, and others towards Latin music and even pop music’. Her faith and love for the human soul exude from every note of her soulful voice.

Winner of the Radio France International Découvertes Contest in 1996, winner of the German World Music CD Critics Award in 2001 and nominated for the BBC World Music

 Awards 2002 for her first album, SEPIA, Coco Mbassi has toured worldwide with her band. Some highlights include the Eden Project Live 8 Concert 2005 organised by Peter Gabriel, WOMAD in Reading, UK; Caceres, Spain; Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Singapore, and Womadelaide, Louisiana International Festival, Jazz Sous Les Pommiers, France, Festival d’Eté in Montréal, Nuits d’Afrique in Québec and Festival des REMY in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

Coco is supported by up-and-coming African music collective, Amani combining the mighty talents of local Congolese, Cameroonian, Sierra Leonean and Zimbabwean musicians bringing you the best of Congolese Rumba, Makossa, Afrobeat, Coupe Decale, Soukous, Palm Wine Music and South African Zulu Dance. Guaranteed to get you on your feet!

This event is brought to you by Amani Creatives in partnership with Brighter Sound and Community Arts North West.

It marks the culmination of the latest Amani Live series; a monthly contemporary African music event at Band on the Wall, featuring music, storytelling, spoken word, dance and visual art from the African diaspora.

The first of eight monthly events with contemporary live African music, dance and spoken word brought to you by Amani Creatives in partnership with Brighter Sound and Community Arts North West.
Afrika Love – A collaborative Zimbabwean music performance between AFIC projects and the high-energy Arimba Marimba. Irresistibly groovy beats, traditional instruments, vocals, percussion and dance from the Southern regions of Africa.
Poet, playwright and performance artist Chanje Kunda performs her acclaimed work.
Introducing activist singer Marechal Nekongo with his revolutionary messages of liberation and hope; a perfect fusion of authentic Congolese Soukous and contemporary African diaspora music.

Between June and November 2015, Amani Creatives has brought the hottest, new talent from the African diaspora to the heart of Manchester in a monthly, family-friendly event.

Music and art lovers and African sound hunters have found delight in listening, dancing, watching and joining in a rich line up of music, dance, spoken word and craft.

From Congo, Cameroon, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Nigeria to UK, Jamaica and Cuba; emerging and professional musicians and artists have spread the joy to audiences.

Before Amani Creatives comes back with an even bigger and better selection of artists and performers for you next year, you are invited to come to the last night of live African music that is organised particularly to give you the opportunity to as well as party, get to know a bits more about the artists, Amani Creatives and the African art.

The performers on the night are Emmanuela Yogolelo, Tagne Tebu, Tshepe Tshepela, Pat Makela,  Joyceline Ludiazo, Authorite Mussema and Herve Vika plus two newest young talents Job and Ephraim.

Special thanks to our 2015 guest artists and performers Imani Jendai, Hugh Peters and Helena Summerfield, Café Con Leche band, Nikky Norton Shafau, Christina Fontes, Holly  Marland and Remi Adefeyisan.

Come and experience for the last time this year irresistible Rumba, Mutwashi, Seben, Agwaya, Bikutshi, Afro-Jazz and African ‘World’ music and dance.
